Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application period is open to international students for the academic year 2026-27. Interested candidates can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .
The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4:00 PM IST . This portal is specifically for foreign national candidates. Eligibility extends to individuals who are not Indian nationals. This includes those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration confirming their English language proficiency. The application also requires the names of two referees who can provide recommendation letters. These referees will be contacted to comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
IIT Delhi may also require scores from standardized tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. For international applicants, scores from Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may be considered.
English language proficiency test scores are also mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be acceptable.
Admission Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to participate. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. The institute will assess candidates’ overall suitability for advanced study and research.
