IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for International Students

IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in .

The application window is open for admissions for the academic year 2026-27. This includes programs for foreign nationals, as well as those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English skills.

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from standardized tests. These include:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE

International standardized tests are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

In addition, candidates must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The interview assesses a candidate’s overall aptitude, chosen field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and oral and written English skills.
