IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students for the 2026-27 academic year. The application portal remains open until March 30, 2026 , at 4 PM IST. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website.

Eligibility Criteria

Non-Indian nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting a self-declaration. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Reference Requirements

Referees will be asked to assess candidates on their overall aptitude, expertise in their chosen field, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English communication abilities, according to the official notification.

Academic and Entrance Exam Requirements

Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level Indian entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program. International applicants may also submit scores from exams like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

English Language Proficiency Tests

Applicants must also provide scores from recognized English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination, among others.

Admission Process

IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their interview performance. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their respective discipline. The committee will evaluate candidates’ suitability for advanced study and research.
