Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applications are processed through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Application Process
Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will evaluate candidates on their overall aptitude, field-specific knowledge, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Specific admission requirements may include scores from standardized tests. These can include Indian exams like the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Additionally, proof of English language proficiency is required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Admission Criteria
IIT Delhi will admit students based on their performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The committee will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
The application portal will remain open until 4:00 PM on March 30, 2026.
