IIT Delhi has opened admissions for PhD and Postgraduate (PG) courses for international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. Applications are accepted for the academic year 2026-27 through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal: international.iitd.ac.in .
The portal closes at 4:00 PM on March 30, 2026 .
Admission Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency . This can be a self-declaration. They must also provide names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Academic and Testing Criteria
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include:
- Indian Tests: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE).
- International Tests: Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Proficiency in English must be demonstrated through tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Candidates must submit their scores.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview.
The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. This step evaluates candidates’ suitability for advanced study and research.
