IIT Delhi is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students for the 2026-27 academic year. The application portal opened recently and will close on March 30, 2026, at 4 PM . Interested candidates can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Requirements
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters on their behalf.
Referees will be asked to comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language abilities, according to official notification.
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These can include India-based exams like the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE).
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Additionally, proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will offer admission based on a candidate’s interview performance. Students with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. This interview will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The committee will assess the candidate’s suitability for the program.
