The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m. Interested candidates can apply online at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. Candidates must also provide names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Admission Process
Referees will evaluate candidates on aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. IIT Delhi may require scores from specific entrance examinations. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Admission is based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with faculty members.
English Proficiency Tests
Applicants may need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be considered.
