IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for international students pursuing PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs for the 2026-27 academic year. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Interested foreign nationals can apply through the official website at international.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility Criteria

The institute is accepting applications from non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They are required to submit a self-declaration of their English language skills.

Application Requirements

Candidates must provide names of two referees. These referees will submit recommendation letters. The referees will comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.

IIT Delhi may require scores from national entrance exams. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International exam scores are also considered. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Other equivalent language tests may also be accepted.

Admission Process

Admission will be based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The committee assesses the candidate’s suitability for the program.
