IIT Delhi is accepting applications for PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Admissions are for the academic year 2026-27.
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applications are submitted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in .
Admission Requirements
Applicants must declare their English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees. These referees will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude. They will assess proficiency in the chosen field. Research potential and independent thinking will also be evaluated. English oral and written proficiency is a key factor.
IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) is also considered.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Selection Process
Admission is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited. The interview panel consists of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
