IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applications must be submitted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in .
Admission Process and Requirements
The application portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 . Applicants must provide a self-declaration of English proficiency. They will also need to name two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will evaluate candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is detailed in the official notification.
To be considered for PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
International examination scores are also accepted. These include:
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
Additionally, proof of English language proficiency is required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, or similar qualifications.
Selection Criteria
IIT Delhi will admit students based on their performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
