The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are currently being accepted for the academic year 2026-27. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 PM.
Application Details
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of their English language proficiency. Additionally, they need to nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to assess the candidate’s overall aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking abilities, and English communication skills.
Eligibility and Requirements
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs for international students may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.
International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered. Candidates are also required to submit scores from recognized English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance in an interview. Students with a strong academic record will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
