IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Admissions Overview

Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applications are for the academic year 2026-27. Interested students must apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a statement declaring English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide recommendation letters.

Referees will assess candidates’ aptitude. They will comment on field proficiency. Potential for research and independent thinking is also evaluated. Oral and written English skills are considered.

Eligibility and Scores

IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests for PhD and PG admissions. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET).

The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program is also relevant. International applicants may submit Graduate Records Examination (GRE) scores. Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) scores are also accepted.

English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

Admission is based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records receive interview invitations. An interview panel consists of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
