The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Interested foreign nationals can submit their applications online at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Requirements
Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to submit a self-declaration of their English language skills.
Candidates must also provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide recommendation letters. The recommendations will focus on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Academic Qualifications and Scores
IIT Delhi considers scores from various national and international examinations. For PhD and PG programs, applicants may need to submit scores from tests like the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Other acceptable national tests include CSIR, UGC NET, or DST INSPIRE.
International exam scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi bases admission on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the interview.
