IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

IIT Delhi is now accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .

Admission Details for International Students

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are being accepted for the 2026-27 academic year . Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

The application window closes at 4:00 PM on March 30, 2026 . Candidates must provide a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Referee and Score Requirements

Referees will evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. The official notification states, “The referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s overall aptitude, proficiency in chosen field, potential for research and independent thinking and proficiency in oral and written English.”

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national or international examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted.

Selection Process

Admission to IIT Delhi’s PG and PhD programs will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. Additionally, applicants must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, Cambridge English Examination, or other recognized language tests.
