The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4:00 PM.
Application Details
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Interested candidates must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English communication skills.
Eligibility and Requirements
Candidates may need to submit scores from national-level entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) exam, University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) award. International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English language proficiency test scores are also required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Admission Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs will be based on the candidate’s performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will receive an invitation for this interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The interview committee assesses the candidate’s suitability for the program.
