IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for International Students

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Admission Details

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. The application window closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026.

Applicants must provide a statement of English proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees who will provide letters of recommendation. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills, according to the official notification.

Eligibility and Requirements

Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These can include India-specific exams like the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program.

International candidates may also submit scores from exams such as the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Furthermore, proficiency in English must be demonstrated through scores from tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview committee will evaluate their suitability for the program.

This application period is for the academic years 2026-2027 .
