The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility
Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referee Recommendations
Referees will evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This feedback is part of the admission assessment.
Academic Requirements
IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests for admission. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) for PhD and PG programs. The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) is also accepted.
For international applicants, scores from Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may be considered. Additionally, candidates must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for this interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
