IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students for the 2026-27 academic year. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility and Application Requirements

Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Referees will be contacted to assess candidates on aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This assessment is part of the admission process.

Academic and Language Proficiency Tests

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International tests like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.

Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted test scores include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. The institute may accept other language tests.

Admission Selection Process

Admission to IIT Delhi programs will be based on performance during an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to this interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the interview.

The interview panel will evaluate candidates’ suitability for the chosen program. This process aims to select students with strong potential for academic success and research.
