IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Admission Details for International Students

Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27. Foreign nationals are eligible. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. The application portal closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a statement confirming English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide recommendation letters. The notification states referees will comment on candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English skills.

IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE for PhD and PG programs. International test scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted.

Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.

Selection Process

Admission will be based on performance in an interview. IIT Delhi will invite candidates with strong academic records to an interview. The interview committee will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
