The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 PM . Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must provide a self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to list two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Reference Letters
Referees will evaluate candidates on several aspects. These include overall aptitude, proficiency in their chosen field, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. The notification states referees will comment on these qualifications.
Admission Requirements
Candidates may need to submit scores from specific entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International applicants may also submit scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English language proficiency must be demonstrated. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests are also considered.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will receive an invitation for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. The institute will assess candidates’ suitability for the program during this interview.
