IIT Delhi PhD/PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply.

Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website, located at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal closes at 4 pm on March 30, 2026 .

Admission Requirements

Applicants must provide a statement of English language proficiency. They also need to nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) exam, University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International tests such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.

Candidates will also need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Students with a strong academic record will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The interview will assess their suitability for the program.
