IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application portal for the 2026-27 academic year closes on March 30, 2026, at 4 PM . Interested foreign nationals can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
The institute welcomes applications from non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of their English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters. These referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Academic Qualifications and Scores
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level Indian entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program. International applicants may also submit scores from exams like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English Proficiency and Selection Process
A minimum score in English language proficiency tests is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination, among others. IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. The committee will evaluate their suitability for the program.
