IIT Delhi opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are accepted through the official website at international.iitd.ac.in . The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m. This applies to admissions for the 2026-27 academic year.
Eligibility and Requirements
Foreign nationals are eligible. This includes individuals with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills. The application portal is accessible via international.iitd.ac.in .
Admission Criteria
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and DST INSPIRE. International applicants may submit scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
English language proficiency test scores are also necessary. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Candidates must also demonstrate proficiency in oral and written English.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Those with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interview committee will comprise faculty members from the relevant discipline.
