IIT Delhi is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can apply through the official website, international.iitd.ac.in , for the 2026-27 academic year.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
The program is open to foreign nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two individuals who can write recommendation letters.
Referees will be asked to evaluate a candidate’s aptitude. They will also comment on the student’s field proficiency. Research potential and independent thinking will be assessed. English speaking and writing skills are also evaluated.
Admission Criteria and Process
IIT Delhi may require scores from national entrance exams. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The DST INSPIRE program score is also considered.
International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Admission decisions are based on interview performance.
Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members. English language proficiency test scores are also mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
