IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are for foreign national students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .

Admission Details

International students can apply for the 2026-27 academic year. The application portal is available at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal closes at 4 pm on March 30, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

Non-Indian nationals are eligible. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees for recommendation letters.

Referee Recommendations

Referees will assess candidates’ aptitude. They will comment on proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking is also evaluated. English oral and written proficiency will be reviewed.

Required Scores

Candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scores may also be required.

International examination scores are also considered. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

English Proficiency Tests

A strong academic record is a prerequisite. IIT Delhi will invite strong candidates for an interview. An interview panel will comprise faculty members from the relevant discipline.

Applicants must also provide scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
