The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are now open for the academic year 2026-27. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Interested candidates must submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Admission Process for International Students
Referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. The IIT Delhi admission portal for foreign national candidates is international.iitd.ac.in .
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International students may also submit scores from Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Admission decisions will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview with a faculty committee. Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
