IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27.

Application Period and Eligibility

The application portal for foreign national candidates remains open until March 30, 2026, at 4 PM . Eligible applicants include non-Indian nationals. This also extends to individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Prospective students can apply through the official website: international.iitd.ac.in.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who can supply recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.

IIT Delhi may require scores from national entrance exams such as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) for PhD and PG program eligibility. International examination scores, including Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT), may also be considered.

English proficiency test scores from examinations like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English are mandatory. A list of accepted tests is available on the official website.

Admission Process

Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. The committee will assess their suitability for the program.
