IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for international students seeking admission to its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply for the academic year 2026-27.

Admission Process Overview

Interested candidates must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The institute requires applicants to submit a statement or self-declaration confirming their English proficiency. This declaration should also include the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters.

Referee Recommendations

Referees will be contacted to assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language abilities. These recommendations are a key component of the application review.

Eligibility and Examination Scores

IIT Delhi may require scores from national and international standardized tests. These can include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program. International applicants may also submit scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

English Proficiency Tests

In addition to general academic requirements, candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted test scores include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examinations. Other language tests may also be considered.

Selection Criteria

Final admission will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to participate in interviews with faculty from their respective disciplines. The interview committee will evaluate their suitability for the program.
