Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application window is for foreign national students for the academic years 2026-27. Applications are due by March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.
International students, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. The application portal is available on the official IIT Delhi international admissions website.
Admission Process and Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from national-level Indian entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
Scores from international examinations are also considered. Accepted international tests include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Additionally, candidates must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Criteria
IIT Delhi will grant admission based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will receive an invitation for an interview. This interview will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
