IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are open until March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible.

Admission Process and Requirements

Candidates must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The application window closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026 . Applicants need to submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and oral and written English skills. This information is according to an official notification from IIT Delhi.

Academic and Language Proficiency

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examinations such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) scores may also be considered.

In addition to academic qualifications, applicants must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. An official statement indicates that a strong academic record is a key factor for selection.

Selection Procedure

Final admission will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. This interview will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The institute will review applications for its programs for the academic years 2026-27.
