IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

IIT Delhi is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application window for the 2026-27 academic year closes on March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m.

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are submitted through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

Application Requirements

Applicants must provide a statement of English language proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Department of Science and Technology (DST) Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) program.

International examination scores are also accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

In addition to academic qualifications, candidates must submit scores from recognized English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination, among others.

Admission Process

IIT Delhi will admit students based on their performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will receive an invitation to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline.
