Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 .
Admission Details
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.
Eligibility Criteria
While the specific academic prerequisites vary by program, candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE for PhD and PG programs.
International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered. English proficiency test scores from exams like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination are required.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs for international students will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee in their respective disciplines. The interview committee assesses candidates for their suitability for advanced study and research.
