IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for International Students

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for international students to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m. Prospective students can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Admission Eligibility for International Students

Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to provide a self-declaration of their English language skills.

Application Requirements

Candidates must also submit the names of two referees. These referees will provide recommendation letters. Referees will be asked to assess a candidate’s aptitude. They will comment on proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking will also be evaluated. English oral and written proficiency will be reviewed.

Academic Qualifications and Test Scores

IIT Delhi may require scores from national entrance examinations. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) is also accepted.

International examination scores are also considered. Applicants may submit Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) scores. English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

Admission will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited. An interview committee composed of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the interviews.
