IIT Delhi has opened admissions for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. Applications are now being accepted for the 2026-27 academic year . The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.
Admissions Overview
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.
Academic and Language Proficiency
To be considered for PhD and PG programs, candidates may need to submit scores from qualifying examinations. These can include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
Scores from international tests like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted. Furthermore, proof of English language proficiency is required. Accepted test scores include those from TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview with a faculty committee in their chosen discipline. The committee assesses the candidate’s suitability for the program.
