IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The application window for the academic year 2026-27 closes on March 30, 2026, at 4 PM IST . Interested candidates can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Candidates must also demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. They will need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.

Academic Requirements

Referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. Depending on the program, applicants may need to submit scores from examinations such as:

  • GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)
  • CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research)
  • UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test)
  • DST INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research)
  • GRE (Graduate Records Examination)
  • GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test)

International students may also need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

Admission Process

IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their interview performance. Applicants with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. The interview aims to evaluate the candidate’s suitability for advanced study and research at IIT Delhi.
