IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for International Students

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27.

Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Interested applicants must submit their application through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The portal closes at 4 PM on the application deadline.

Application Requirements

Applicants need to provide a statement or self-declaration confirming their English language proficiency. They must also submit the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide recommendation letters.

Referees will comment on a candidate’s overall aptitude. They will also assess proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking are evaluated. English proficiency, both oral and written, will also be reviewed.

Admission Criteria

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.

Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be accepted.

Selection Process

Admission decisions will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for this interview. The interview panel will comprise faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
