IIT Delhi is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline for applications is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m. Foreign nationals can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Eligibility and Requirements
Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will be asked to assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is detailed in the official admission notification.
Academic and Language Proficiency
IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.
English language proficiency is mandatory. Applicants must submit scores from tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. Other recognized language tests may also be accepted.
Selection Process
Admission is based on an interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The committee will evaluate candidates’ suitability for the program.
