IIT Delhi is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application window for the 2026-27 academic year closes on March 30, 2026 . Interested foreign nationals can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to submit a self-declaration of their English language skills.
Application Requirements
Applicants must nominate two referees. These referees will provide recommendation letters. The notification states referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude. They will also comment on proficiency in the chosen field and research potential. English speaking and writing skills are also evaluated.
Academic Scores
Admission may require scores from specific entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) are also relevant. The DST INSPIRE program is another potential requirement.
International standardized test scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE). The Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) is also accepted.
English Proficiency Tests
Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL and IELTS. TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination are also valid. Other recognized language tests may be accepted.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi selects students based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews are conducted by a faculty committee from the relevant department.
