Admission Process for Foreign Nationals
Prospective students must apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026.
Applicants need to submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They must also provide names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Eligibility and Entrance Exams
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) for domestic candidates.
For international applicants, scores from standardized tests like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may be considered. Additionally, proof of English language proficiency is mandatory, requiring scores from tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Criteria
The final selection for admission will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant academic discipline.
