IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m. Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27.

Foreign nationals are eligible. This includes individuals with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Interested students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will recommend candidates based on aptitude and research potential.

The notification states referees will comment on a candidate’s overall aptitude. They will also assess proficiency in the chosen field. Research potential and independent thinking are evaluated. Oral and written English proficiency is also a factor.

IIT Delhi may require scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) scores may be needed. Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scores are also considered for PhD and PG admissions.

International exam scores are also accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

Selection Process

Admission will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. A committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline will conduct the interview.

English language proficiency test scores are also mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be accepted.
