IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application window is for international students aiming for admission in the academic year 2026-27.

Application Details

International candidates can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The deadline for submissions is March 30, 2026, at 4 PM .

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They will need to provide a statement of their English proficiency. The application also requires names of two referees for recommendation letters.

Referees will assess candidates on their aptitude and field proficiency. They will also evaluate potential for research and independent thought. English communication skills, both written and oral, will be reviewed.

Required Scores and Assessments

To be considered for PhD and PG programs, applicants may need to submit scores from specific national and international examinations. These include:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE
  • Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
  • Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)

Proficiency in English must also be proven through standardized tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.

Selection Process

Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG courses will be based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will receive an invitation. The interview will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
