IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for International Students

IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website, international.iitd.ac.in.

Admission Eligibility

The application is open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to provide a self-declaration of their English skills.

Required Documentation

Applicants must submit the names of two referees. These referees will provide recommendation letters. The referees will comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills. Academic and Entrance Exam Requirements

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Other accepted tests are the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) is also listed.

International applicants can also submit scores from exams like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE). The Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) is another accepted qualification.

Proficiency in English must be proven through standardized tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.

Selection Process

Admission to IIT Delhi programs is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. The selection committee will assess candidates during this interview stage.
