IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for International Students

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for international students seeking admission to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27 through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.

Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include national Indian tests like Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE).

International examination scores are also considered. Accepted international tests include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

Additionally, candidates must submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs is based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records receive invitations to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. The committee evaluates candidates’ suitability for the program.
