The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs for international students. Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must provide a self-declaration of their English language proficiency. They will also need to nominate two referees who can submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Academic and Test Score Requirements
Depending on the program, candidates may need to submit scores from national entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) tests, University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program. International examination scores, such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT), are also accepted.
Additionally, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency through standardized tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination. A strong academic record is required for all applicants.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance during an interview. Applicants with strong academic backgrounds will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant department. The institute will make admission decisions following these interviews.
