IIT Delhi is accepting applications for PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27. Interested students must apply online through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal closes at 4 pm on March 30, 2026.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees. These referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills. This information is part of the application notification.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from standardized tests. These include India’s Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
International Standardized Tests
Scores from international examinations such as the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) can also be submitted. These scores may be used for admission consideration.
In addition to academic qualifications and test scores, candidates may need to submit results from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The interview evaluates a candidate’s suitability for the program.
