IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. Applications are currently being accepted for the 2026-27 academic year. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 .

Application Details

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. The application window closes at 4 PM on March 30, 2026. Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in .

Required Submissions

Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of their English proficiency. They also need to nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be asked to assess the candidate’s aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs may require scores from national-level entrance examinations. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scheme.

International examination scores are also considered. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Candidates may also need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.

Final selection will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview panel. This panel will comprise faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
