IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for Foreign Students

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Foreign national students can apply. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m. Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27. Prospective students should visit the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in to submit their applications.

Eligibility and Requirements

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters. These referees will be contacted to assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.

Admission Criteria

Candidates may need to submit scores from national examinations such as the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program. International examination scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.

IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. Applicants must also provide scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examinations, among others.
