The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Foreign nationals can apply for the academic year 2026-27. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m.
Eligibility and Application Process
Non-Indian citizens are eligible. This includes individuals with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Referees will evaluate candidates’ aptitude and research potential. They will also assess English language proficiency. The IIT Delhi admissions portal is international.iitd.ac.in.
Academic Requirements
Candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), and University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) is also mentioned.
International examination scores are accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). English language proficiency test scores are also required. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Admission Selection
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on interview performance. Applicants with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
