IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for Foreign Nationals

IIT Delhi is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Foreign national students can apply for the academic year 2026-27.

The application portal is open until March 30, 2026 . The deadline is 4 PM. Interested students can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in.

Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will write recommendation letters for the candidates.

According to the notification, referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude. They will also comment on the candidate’s chosen field proficiency. Potential for research and independent thinking are evaluated. English oral and written proficiency is also considered.

Selection Criteria

Admission requirements may include scores from national and international tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) scores are also considered.

International examination scores are also accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

Final selection is based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.

Proficiency in English must be demonstrated through standardized tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
