The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) cardholders, are eligible to apply.
Admission Process for International Students
International candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in . The portal will remain open until 4 PM on March 30, 2026, for the 2026-27 academic year.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement or self-declaration of their English language proficiency. They must also list two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will be contacted to comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from national-level entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program.
International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted. Additionally, candidates must submit scores from English language proficiency tests, including TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Criteria
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will receive invitations for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant academic disciplines.
